Its blue-green, waxy stems are covered with short spines near the areoles, and the plant can grow up to 12 feet (3.6 meters) tall, making it a bold focal point for large garden spaces or containers. This cactus produces large, funnel-shaped, white flowers that bloom at night in late spring to early summer, followed by ornamental red fruits when pollinated.
