Boojum Tree
Plant Category:
Tree / Cactus
Plant/Product Description:
Fouquieria columnaris, commonly known as the Boojum Tree, is a striking, desert-dwelling tree native to Baja California, Mexico. It features a unique, slender trunk that can reach up to 30 feet in height and branches that look like twisted, spindly arms. The tree’s unusual, cactus-like appearance and striking form make it a favorite among gardeners seeking to create a desert-inspired landscape. In late spring or early summer, the Boojum Tree produces tubular, red or orange flowers that attract pollinators, adding a splash of color to its otherwise sculptural silhouette.
Plant Care Notes:
• Sunlight: Prefers full sun for optimal growth.
• Watering: Water thoroughly when the soil is dry to the touch. Allow the soil to dry completely between waterings to prevent root rot.
• Soil: Requires well-draining, sandy or loamy soil for optimal growth.
• Temperature: Thrives in temperatures between 70°F and 90°F (21°C to 32°C). Not frost-tolerant and should be protected from freezing temperatures.
• Dormancy: Fouquieria columnaris is dormant in the winter, requiring minimal water during this period.
• Propagation: Can be propagated by seeds or stem cuttings.
• Pests: Generally pest-resistant but may occasionally attract mealybugs or aphids.
l
