Botanical Name:
Pachycereus marginatus Cristata
Common Names:
Crested Mexican Fence Post Cactus
Plant Category:
Cactus
Plant/Product Description:
Crested Fence Post Cactus, also known as Pachycereus marginatus Cristata, is a unique form of the traditional Fence Post Cactus. This crested variety features a distinct, fan-shaped growth pattern, where the cactus develops flat, wavy, and sometimes spiral ridges that give it a dramatic and sculptural look. The cactus retains the same tall, columnar form as the regular Pachycereus marginatus but with added visual interest due to its cresting. It produces large, white flowers that bloom in the summer, adding beauty to its already fascinating structure.
Plant Care Notes:
• Sunlight: Prefers full sun for optimal growth and flowering.
• Watering: Water thoroughly when the soil is dry to the touch. Allow the soil to dry completely between waterings to prevent root rot.
• Soil: Requires well-draining cactus mix or succulent mix with added perlite or pumice for optimal drainage.
• Temperature: Thrives in temperatures between 70°F and 85°F (21°C to 29°C). Not frost-tolerant and should be protected from freezing temperatures.
• Dormancy: Crested Fence Post Cactus is dormant in the winter, requiring minimal water during this period.
• Propagation: Can be propagated by stem cuttings or offsets.
• Pests: Generally pest-resistant but may occasionally attract mealybugs or aphids.
Toxicity:
Crested Fence Post Cactus is non-toxic to humans and pets.
