Botanical Name:
Senecio peregrinus

Common Names:
String of Dolphins

Plant Category:
Succulent

Plant/Product Description:
Senecio peregrinus, commonly known as String of Dolphins, is a fun and unique trailing succulent with leaves shaped like dolphin fins. The plant grows quickly in a trailing form, making it an excellent choice for hanging baskets or containers. The leaves are green with a slight bluish tint and turn purple in direct sunlight. String of Dolphins also produces small, white daisy-like flowers.

Plant Care Notes:

  • Sunlight: Prefers bright, indirect light but can tolerate a few hours of direct sun. Too much sun may cause leaf burn.
  • Watering: Water thoroughly when the soil is dry to the touch. Allow the soil to dry completely between waterings.
  • Soil: Requires a well-draining succulent mix or cactus mix with added perlite or pumice for optimal drainage.
  • Temperature: Thrives in temperatures between 70°F and 85°F (21°C to 29°C). Not frost-tolerant and should be protected from freezing temperatures.
  • Dormancy: Senecio peregrinus is dormant in the winter, requiring minimal water during this period.
  • Propagation: Can be propagated by stem cuttings.
  • Pests: Generally pest-resistant but may occasionally attract mealybugs or aphids.

Toxicity:
Senecio peregrinus is toxic if ingested and should be kept away from children and pets.
